NEW YORK, 15 April 2010 – The UNICEF micro site ‘20 Years of Child Rights’ – commemorating the 20th anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) – has been named an Official Honouree of the 14th Annual Webby Awards.
Sometimes called the ‘Oscars of the Internet,’ the Webby Awards are presented by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences. They honour excellence in web design, creativity, usability and functionality.
Because there were nearly 10,000 entries from more than 60 countries this year, the Academy selected for special mention the top 15 per cent of entries exhibiting ‘remarkable achievement.’ UNICEF was recognized in the charitable organizations/non-profit category.

Using photos, essays and video, ‘20 Years of Child Rights’ examines the achievements of the CRC and looks at ways the human family can ensure that the landmark agreement’s principles are universally applied.
Webby Award winners are chosen by celebrity judges as well as votes cast online by millions of fans around the world. In 2006, UNICEF won a Webby for working to bring excluded and invisible children to the world’s attention through its multimedia flagship report, The State of the World's Children.
The CRC 20th anniversary micro site has also been recognized globally by the world’s leading communications professionals, winning the Interactive Media Council (IMC) Award for ‘outstanding achievement’ in the non-profit category. UNICEF was one of 13 winners amongst 105 competitors.
Honouring creative excellence, the IMC Awards are judged by members of a non-profit trade organization dedicated to elevating the standards of excellence on the Internet. IMC members include leaders in web design, advertising, public relations, publishing, news and other online industries.
